The Island Express Arrives at Kazhakoottam
The 16526 Bangalore City – Kanniyakumari Island Express slowly comes to a halt at Kazhakoottam railway station at the outskirts of Trivandrum, Kerala on an insanely sunny day, late by more than an hour and 15 minutes. This photograph shows the full-length LHB rake the legend runs with, headed by Royapuram (RPM) diesel locomotive shed’s WAP7 electric locomotive #39121. Kazhakoottam, the home of the Technopark, has transformed from a sleepy wayside station to a busy transit point where where a number of express trains stop today, the Island Express being the one covering the longest distance, thanks to the locality being home to the fastest growing outskirts/suburban area of Trivandrum city.
