The Serene and Spotlessly Clean Ashtamudi Lake in Kerala

The serene Ashtamudi lake lies calm under a clear blue sky on a fine morning, its shores fringed by greenery in typical Kerala fashion while a boat waits at a jetty. This pretty postcard perfect picture presents a typical rural view of backwaters of Kerala where blue meets green in melancholy fashion. The location is Perumon in Kollam district at the famous railway bridge, and this photo was shot from a train. The beautiful Ashtamudi lake is a great example of a spotlessly clean water body as they usually are in Kerala. There are house boats cruises available on the Ashtamudi lake and along the adjoining Kallada river though they are not as numerous as in Alappuzha or Kumarakom.
