Kerala Private Bus St.Basil Leaves Vyttila Hub

Still part of the dwindling private stage carriage bus fleet of Kerala, St.Basil runs on from Ernakulam Kaloor to Arayankavu near Thalayolaparambu via Vyttila Hub, Thrippunithura, Thiruvankulam, Chottanikara, Mulanthuruthy and Kanjiramattom. Seen here leaving the Vyttila Hub on the evening schedule that will take about an hour or so to run its route of around 35 kilometers. Arayankavu is a village that lies at the border of the Kottayam and Ernakulam districts. Two motorcycle dudes can also be seen accompanying the bus out of the hub. “St.Basil” like all other private buses in Kerala is severely hit by the Kerala government’s “Priyadarshini” free bus travel for women on KSRTC buses.

The real St.Basil was an early Cappadocian Greek Christian Bishop from the 4rd century who is venerated as one of biggest saints in Eastern Christianity. He laid the foundations for much of Christian theology, laid the guideline for communal monastic life and built what could be said to be the first super-specialty hospital complex in the world to make healthcare accessible to the poor. The famous St.Basil’s Cathedral on the Red Square in Moscow is named after him.
