The Famous Pieta at Meenkunnam on MC Road Kerala

The “Pieta” is a world-famous marble sculpture by Michelangelo that depicts the Virgin Mary cradling Jesus in her lap. There is a famous copy of the same in Ernakulam district in Kerala. It is located on a sharp curve at Meenkunnam on the MC Road between Koothattukulam and Muvattupuzha. This Pieta is attached to the St.Joseph’s church, Meenkunnam. It is made of concrete, “surki”, marble powder and (apparently) tens of thousands of eggs. The location is at among the highest in the region, and offer great views across the valleys of the Western Ghats.
