Kazhakoottam Railway Station Evening Vibes
Kazhakoottam railway station has recently grown in stature to be counted among the most important railway stations in Thiruvananthapuram district. It was initially built in the 1960s near what was once a sleepy hamlet outside the city to primarily serve the FCI depot that was built nearby. The growth of Kazhakoottam mainly with the Technopark and VSSC nearby has today made it the second highest grossing railway station the district not counting the two terminus at Trivandrum City. Sadly not many trains stop here and the station is bereft of any development.
Kazhakoottam station has a unique small-town station vibe to it despite being among the busiest at certain times. This vibe can especially be felt during the evenings as it can be in this photo. The train waiting at the station is the 56305 Thiruvananthapuram – Kollam passenger led by veteran Erode WAP1 #22042 (among the oldest currently in service) on its scheduled halt. The 16650 Parasuram Express to Kanniyakumari had just departed.
