What seems to be a scene looking like out of a sci-fi horror movie just before inter-dimensional creatures were about to appear through a vortex, or from a disaster movie that sets an apocalyptic scene after an enormous calamity that wiped out three quarters of humankind, this is neither, but only a part of an ordinary wet ecosystem of a Kerala backwater. This particular one is the Poovar backwaters in the extreme south of the state, close to the Tamil Nadu border. The sky looked glorious, covered in black clouds except for one patch, while the water stood silent and still. It rained pretty soon thereafter.
