The Mighty EMD (WDP4) Rests at SBC
KJM’s mighty WDP4 #20068 EMD Diesel Locomotive stands tall at Bangalore City Railway Station, raring to go with the express it is attached to. The WDP4 is the GT46PAC by EMD (Electro-Motive Diesel), an American company previously owned by GM and now by Caterpillar. The Indian Railway classification of this 4000 hp, single cab forward diesel behemoth is WDP4, also the first mainstream diesel passenger locomotive dedicated to haul passenger trains. The WDP4 has a twin, the WDG4 (GT46MAC) dedicated to haul freight trains. Most diesel trains out of Bangalore are headed by WDP4s.
