Golden Rock (Trichy) shed’s EMD WDG4 #12871 hauls a relatively short rake of BCNA wagons across a typical setting of the rustic beauty of the rural Tamil Nadu countryside, just before it was about to pass under a road overbridge on the National Highway NH7 at Jambuthuraikottai, J Mettur, Dindigul District in Tamil Nadu, near Kodaikanal Road Railway Station. The rail line is the Madurai – Dindigul section of the Madurai – Chennai main trunk line. The section is double line electrified but the other track runs at some distance away. The spot makes an awesome railfanning spot where you can nicely spot full-length trains, if you can stand the sound of trucks rumbling across the bridge 🙂 Also, this was the 300th fottam!
On a gloomy day, Indian Railways’ WDG4 class twin diesel locomotives haul a long rake of BCNA wagons past the curve at Bayyappanahalli in Bangalore. WDG4 #12639 is in the lead. The two locomotives, originally manufactured by EMD USA and then built in India, together amount to 8000 bhp.
Twin EMDs of Pune loco shed idle, lights and presenting a show of their raw power, awaiting their turn to move forward. The 4000 hp humongous beasts are fast becoming the predominant Diesel traction freight locomotives on Indian Railways. Compared to the original GT46MAC models, the newer WDG4s have a more “rounded” look which sort of takes away some of their ferociousness.
Indian Railways’ Diesel Freight Locomotive WDG4 #12151 of Hubli (UBL) shed along with another WDG4 stand attached to a consist of BOXN wagons at Whitefield Railway Station near Bangalore. The massive, hulking beasts generate 4000 hp of power and are now Indian Railways’ premier freight engines. They were originally supplied by EMD Corporation of USA.
