The Under-Renovation NH47 Highway near Coimbatore

The Walayar – Coimbatore part of the Palakkad – Coimbatore section of the National Highway 47 (new number NH 744) which runs from Kanyakumari to Salem via Kerala. Half-finished flyovers and overbridges dot the stretch of the two-lane road marred by potholes and twists and turns which is such a contrast from the awesome three-lane highways of the rest of Tamil Nadu. The area though presents spectacular scenery against the backdrops of the Western Ghat hills of the Palakkad Gap. Those structures in between belong to some factory of some sort.

Broken and Flooded MC Road near Tiruvalla, Kerala

Cars “swim” through a waterlogged MC Road near Tiruvalla in Kerala. The state of the “lifeline” road of central south Kerala is deplorable and this is not the only location where the road is in this condition, rather it is one of many. Deep gorges hide beneath the water, holding up traffic and causing long traffic jams and misery. Only a small rain is enough for the road to turn into a waterway. Maybe they are trying to promote water tourism advertising the road as a backwater where you can enjoy driving through them instead of hiring expensive houseboats.
