Love is When a Goods and Passenger EMD Locos Haul an Express Train!

Two EMD Diesel behemoths: Kalyan’s Dual-Cab Freight Locomotive WDG4D #70380 and Bhagat-ki-Kothi’s (Jodhpur) Single-Cab Passenger Loco WDP4B #40082 together haul the 12977 Ernakulam – Ajmer Marusagar Express at Chalakudy, Kerala! Now this is absolutely rare since usually always locos of the same class are coupled together, even more so as the WDG4D is a rare class of loco and hardly spotted this far south! Now, barely after the train departed ERS, the WDP4B failed, that is its coupling broke and was stuck on the track unable to proceed further. The crew made a makeshift arrangement that allowed the train to reach the next station, Chalakudy, where they waited for a long time until both locos were detached and the 4B put on the loop line and the WDG4D left hauling the 24-coach load alone. And further on the Konkan line the G4D also broke down! The train finally reached Ajmer 10 hours late on that run. I was on the train and could capture this rarest of rare occurrence where both locos face each other with their lights on! Night. Rain. Two locos facing each other with both their headlights on. Intense. This is love. <3

One-Sided Nightly Traffic Jam on Bangalore Outer Ring Road

A “birds eye” view of Bangalore’s most defining feature today: its traffic jams, no matter if it is day or night. This one was taken on a rainy night at 10:15 in the night (!) from the Ramamurthy Nagar Bridge at Banaswadi on the Outer Ring Road. Vehicles were backed up from KR Puram Railway Station to Banaswadi, a mighty five kilometers! Note the jam on the service road on the right as well. The opposite side is free, only because vehicles are bunched up on the other side 200 meters before, blocking the entire road trying to get up the ramp leading to this bridge. Wonder when all these people will reach home. The street lamp stands silently looking down at the mass of stalled vehicles, shedding tears looking at the condition of the city…

Interiors of the Orion Mall at Brigade Gateway, Bengaluru

Interior layout of the Orion Mall, part of the Brigade Gateway complex at Rajajinagar in West Bangalore. Orion is one of the lesser-visited malls of Bangalore by the “IT crowd” as it is not situated anywhere near the IT corridors and an outing to which is a one-day work. It mainly caters to the “natives” of the city and is also connected by the Metro (Green Line). It is part of the posh Brigade Gateway complex which also includes the World Trade Center tower and a ultra-luxurious apartment complex, centered around an expansive boulevard. Very posh place for posh people.
